Shopify Launches New Polaris: Unified, Web-Component-Based UI Toolkit
Shopify has unveiled a major update to Polaris, its design system—now rebuilt using web components for seamless performance across Admin, Checkout, and Customer Accounts. The new Polaris is framework-agnostic, faster, and smaller, delivering consistent UX through reusable HTML-like components directly from Shopify’s CDN.
Developers can now build unified app experiences without juggling multiple design systems, with familiar APIs and props across all Shopify surfaces. This update also eliminates the need for React in UI extensions, improving performance and reducing bundle sizes.
Currently in Release Candidate (RC) mode, the new Polaris is ready for early adoption. Partners can explore it via Storybook and integrate it into modern workflows using LLM tools like GitHub Copilot or Cursor. Shopify encourages feedback before the official rollout.

Shopify Deprecates Gate Types and Fields Across APIs
Due to limited usage, Shopify is deprecating gate types and fields across the GraphQL Admin, Storefront, and Functions APIs, encouraging developers to transition to metafields and metaobjects instead. These modern tools offer greater flexibility and efficiency for managing custom-structured data, fully integrated across Shopify's APIs. To ensure continued functionality, developers should begin migrating their implementations
